The health benefits of massage are well documented, and a hand and arm massage is no exception to the rule. Having your hands and arms massaged feels good, helps to ease muscle tension and can in some cases even reduce pain. Studies have shown that having a professional hand and arm massage once a week may help reduce the pain associated with many conditions, including arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome and neuropathy.
More recently a 2018 study by Givi et al showed that getting regular hand massages may
also help to lower your blood pressure.
What conditions can be treated with Arm & Hand Massage?
An arm massage covers the whole arm from the shoulder down, massaging the biceps and triceps down as far as your wrist. The aim is to reduce muscle tension and reduce pain/inflammation by using a variety of massage techniques. Along with reduced pain and arm massage can increase the range of movement and prevent future injuries to the arm through sport/housework or general exertion. The massage increases both the blood and lymph flow through the arms, promoting both detoxification and an increase in oxygen resulting in healthier, stronger, and more resilient muscles.
Each client responds to massage uniquely. Clients feel many benefits, including reduced muscle tension, increased relaxation, improved mobility and sleep. You will feel calm and uplifted, nourished and grounded. Following the initial treatment, you may require further treatment to achieve the results you are looking for, depending on your presenting condition. After your massage you need to allow time to relax a little and drink water to avoid dehydration. I will also prescribe a homecare programme and advice for you to take home to support your massage treatment.
The hand massage involves purely working the hands promoting relaxation and can in some
instances break down scar tissue. By massaging the hand, scar tissue is loosened which in
turn relieves any pain and tightness. If you have swelling in your hands through injury or
surgery, then hand massage can assist in reducing the swelling.
