The use of hot stones in healing treatments is something that has been around for thousands of years. Their use is based on the principle that heat relaxes your body at its deepest level. So the heat promotes relaxation and allows the therapist to work at a deeper level to support the healing and balancing of your body’s systems.
In each session, I meticulously select smooth, flat basalt stones, known for their ability to retain heat. These stones are warmed to a precise temperature, ensuring they’re warm enough to penetrate the muscles deeply, yet comfortable and safe for every client. I place these heated stones at strategic points along the body, aligning them with the spine, the center of the palms, and even the toes, aiming to balance and energise the body’s energy centres. In my hands, these stones become extensions of my touch.
I’ve observed the profound relaxation that unfolds as the heat from the stones eases muscle tension, facilitating a deeper and more effective massage. The enhanced circulation nourishes the muscles with increased oxygen and nutrients, promoting healing and vitality. Mentally and emotionally, dissipating stress and anxiety, ushering in a state of inner peace.
Safety is my utmost priority. I monitor the temperature of the stones meticulously to ensure comfort and avoid burns. I’m trained to place the stones with precision, maximising therapeutic benefits while ensuring the well-being of my clients. There are specific health conditions where I exercise caution, adapting my approach to ensure the safety and comfort of every individual.
To be fair, these are similar to the effects of a standard reflexology session. The difference between the two is that we tend to see a faster response when we use the stones to heat your body.
It’s not for everybody. There are some conditions where heat is not recommended, including when there is inflammation such as with rheumatoid arthritis, or skin conditions that can be aggravated by moisture or heat, such as dermatitis.
For this treatment, we work on your feet and legs up to your knees. It’s soothing and relaxing. As some people can handle more heat than others, your reflexologist will always check that the stones are at the right temperature for you. All you need to do is relax and let your body rebalance and heal.
